16 Apr Girl Stuff: Rekindling my fondness for nail lacquer
There was a period in my life when I could (and would) change my nail polish shade every week. Although I’m not very adventurous with shades, I’ve always enjoyed seeing my nails properly groomed because I feel it’s the cherry on top of the beauty cake. But that was a couple of years ago and I confess that perhaps because of other domestic matters, I let the cherry slide. Sometimes I just find it too tasking to wait for layers of nail polish to dry when I need to catch up with my toddler or change a diaper, and sometimes it can be frustrating when my fresh manicure chips because of washing dishes or opening cans (can I hear all the mamas in the house?).
When I attended the Girl Stuff Bloggers’ Elite Summer Collection event a few weeks ago where the brand launched its collaboration with four bloggers, I casually shared that gripe to Arian (IG: @ariannyani) who did my nail art and is also a mom and she shared that with Girl Stuff, I won’t experience any of those problems. Here’s my chance! I just had to put it to the test! Let me share with you four reasons why Girl Stuff has rekindled my fondness for nail lacquer plus some photos from the event:
1. It driest fast
Upon entering Stacy’s, I was escorted to have my nails done and I wore Go Jackie Go lime green with Struttingonsunshine sky blue and AskMeWhats lilac for the art. I didn’t really have to wait for my nails to dry before I could go on with my usual activities, I was able to take photos, meet bloggers and shake hands, and look around at the event right away! Girl Stuff’s clear polish also sealed my polish quickly and only after a few minutes (I truly, hardly noticed it was minutes), I could go on with my life. Because we all know women are completely helpless when we’re waiting for our nails to dry.
Even when I painted my nails at home the week after with a new shade (Grace), I no longer experienced that waiting time I’ve since dreaded as a mother DIY-ing her nails at home.
2. It lasts long
My nail art from the event lasted a week before I saw any chipping and my DIY mani for a beach vacation lasted 8 days before I saw a tiny chip. My pedicure is about 2 weeks old and counting! It’s survived the beach, pool water, and my day-to-day activities. My next problem now is how to change my pedicure with my belly in the way. Hehe!
3. It’s five-free, otherwise known as not harmful nail polish
In the nail lacquer world, five-free is the standard for the least harmful polish. There are polishes that are only three-free, and polishes that are non-free, hehe! (Please stay away from the latter ones!) Five free means it lacks toluene, formaldehyde, dibutylphtalate, camphor and formaldehyde resins. It’s great for pregnant ladies like myself, breastfeeding moms, and also kids.
4. It’s so affordable–your daily latte is more expensive!
At P149 a bottle, the shades, its performance, and its chemical-free nature makes it a great buy. Girl Stuff is a local brand and the nail lacquers are made in France. It interests me how they keep the costs low, but I am glad they are able to! There are so many shades that are gems, similar to coveted foreign brands that retail for much more than P149.
I’ve yet to play with the Bloggers’ Elite Summer Collection on my own, but I confess that when I finish posting this blog, changing my polish from Grace to another shade is what I’m going to do next!
