Perhaps one of the first truths that made this man interesting to me were his obvious contradictions. He's a firecracker yet his heart is tender, he's overly protective but he masks it with his silence, he is firm but he is forgiving. Every day I relish in his seeming opposites, and every day it draws me in. I may not have enough words to write about you yet, but we do have plenty of family and friends who are witness to you. Here's a glimpse of my most challenging subject to date, from the eyes of those nearest and dearest to him. Name one of...

Like me? I've had this post idea for weeks and yet I've only come around to writing this now not because I'm busy. I think, it's because I've been distracted. In February I finished two books that's been really helpful to me, the first which I've blogged about a few weeks back, and the second is Crazy Busy by Kevin DeYoung. While both books don't focus on distraction, both mention it and it's been brewing in my mind and heart since. Both authors write that distraction is keeping us from getting to the core of who our spirits and souls thirst for, and...

This book was an accidental find. The back story is there was dissatisfaction brewing in my heart for months and I couldn't put my finger on what it was exactly. Until God whispered revealed it to me while I was cleaning up my makeup stash. My struggle with needing to prove myself and never believing I am quite enough were two fruits of a single root. So I set out to find something to read to address this the best way we know how: Google. I typed: "self-esteem christian book woman". And Nothing to Prove was at the top of the results....

Has it really been a year since I gave birth to my son? It's hard to believe most times, but when I look back at old pictures, I am surprised at how much my kids have grown. Insert crying emoji here! Surprisingly, I was much less of a soupy mixture of emotions when we celebrated Mateo's birthday two Mondays ago. There was definitely more joy and less of a bittersweet taste than when we celebrated Vera's first birthday. Perhaps I had the luxury of more time in my hands to "feel all the feels" or, in proper English, to overthink then. I...

Say hello to my son, Mateo. And to me too, since I’ve been out a while. Hehe! In my defense, I was busy cooking up a human and then bringing it out into the world. Mateo was born on May 30 and it was nine days before we were scheduled to give birth. I’ll share my birth story in another post, but suffice to say, our newest bundle of joy decided to surprise everyone and couldn’t seem to wait to see the world. This post is actually a late Father’s Day post, because I want to share a little about why we named...

There was a period in my life when I could (and would) change my nail polish shade every week. Although I'm not very adventurous with shades, I've always enjoyed seeing my nails properly groomed because I feel it's the cherry on top of the beauty cake. But that was a couple of years ago and I confess that perhaps because of other domestic matters, I let the cherry slide. Sometimes I just find it too tasking to wait for layers of nail polish to dry when I need to catch up with my toddler or change a diaper, and sometimes...

Babies, babies, babies! I'm always elated whenever friends conceive and begin their journey to motherhood. Motherhood is one of the best things I've done with my life so far and I would indeed count it as one of my top experiences. Last week I was invited to Sabs Hernandez's (aka The Makeup Maven's) baby shower thrown by Rustan's for Baby Henri at the Raffles Makati Writers Bar. It was a fun afternoon of delicious high tea, games, and of course chika, and I'm glad I was able to meet more beauty bloggers.

We just celebrated our girl's second (*ugly cry*) birthday party over the weekend and we decided to do something low key which she would enjoy. Initially I wasn't really sold on throwing her a party but when I realized that we're spending her last few months as an only child and soon she'll be learning what it's like to have a sibling, I thought it was a good opportunity to deposit and invest in her love tank. I've also casually been asking other moms for tips on helping their eldest welcome another sibling just to prepare.

There really wasn't much question...

Since becoming pregnant a second time, I've been reminded of one of the "conversation starters" I quite dislike and I wonder why Filipinos think it's okay to say, "Let me guess… (They take a step back and examine me from head to foot) I think you're having a boy." Filipino wivestales say a woman pregnant with a boy looks tired while a baby girl makes her look more blooming. This translates in my brain as:

Girrrrrrl, you don't look too good. You don't got that 'pregnancy glow'. You're not glowing, therefore, it can't be a girl.

Of course I just smile,...

Hello! Just in case you've been reading my blog and have wondered where I've gone, this my post to explain. If you haven't been reading my blog or haven't been wondering where I've been, this is still my blog to explain it. Hehe. I only realized the subject matter doesn't actually change after typing my sentence ;)I'm still here, I can still write and I haven't forgotten my password. The first reason for my absence is a happy one: I'm preggo! We found out last October and kept it a bit mum for a while. I was off to a...
