Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip Swatches (and Baby)

This is my first post on makeup since committing to my blog early this year. But I’ll be publishing a bit more on beauty in the coming days, too, since it’s just something I have a head full of knowledge on too! Many easily associate me with beauty because of my work but my journey into beauty was accidental. I first started out in magazine publishing set out to be a features editor–covering the general lifestyle beat rather than zeroing in on beauty, but I stumbled into the beauty beat because no one was really covering it in the title I was under at that time. I had a bit of knowledge, because I had background in performing (hello, years of competitive figure skating + dance) and truthfully, it is the norm in our home because my mom is the beauty girl of our family. I think I’ll get back to that story another time, and I will jump into this beautiful box Benefit sent me. 🙂

Our family had just returned from celebrating my Mom’s birthday in Baguio when I received a box of Benefit’s new lipstick, They’re Real Double the Lip in 8 shades. Here’s the big idea: In one tube you get two shades which will fake a fuller lip with less effort. The Internet is full of tutorials on how to get fuller lips and often you get the same advice: apply a lighter color from the center of your lips going out, or a gloss, to create a fuller lip effect. Another way this is done is wearing a darker lip liner or lipstick shade on the outer parts of your lips to give your lips a more 3D effect. It might not be as overt as what you’ll see on some, but it’s there! It’s subtle, and I think it’s perfect for every day. Here’s what it looks like in photos!

Also, I have found a new way for me to take photos of myself. It’s just so much more fun with my kids! Plus I get to have more photos with them than I normally would without these selfies. Hooray for blogging about beauty!

See the two-tone design of this lipstick? The tip is the darker shade, which should create that darker lip liner effect while the bottom half (two thirds?) is the lighter or main shade. The two tone design is to made to create fuller, poutier lips with a single lipstick inside your bag!

Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip in Pink Thrills

Wearing the same shade here and I think you see the darker lip liner effect in this photo better. Mateo was just so cute in the other one. HEHE!

Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip in Fuchsia Fever

Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip in Revved-Up Red – Can you see that subtle darker outline? Having them in one tube makes the transition between colors smoother than the harsh line of a dark lip liner plus lighter lipstick ala `90s.

Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip in Juicy Berry – Another shade that shows off that darker and lighter shade better. Excuse Mateo’s slightly more tan complexion–we took this a few days after we shot the first set of photos and he had already turned small, dark, and handsome at this point!

A Few Quick Thoughts:

  • Convenient: To have two shades in one tube is easier to reapply than having to create that effect (if desired) with two products. You’re just retouching your lipstick as you normally would.
  • Flip It: Just be mindful to flip the lipstick tube around when you’re applying color on the other lip, so that the darker shade stays on the outer part of your lip! Hehe.
  • Not Matte: It’s more creamy and moisturizing, which also adds to a fuller lip effect. If you eat or drink, you will probably want to retouch after just to get that gradient lip effect.
  • Simple: It takes the guesswork out of having to match colors together! Which for someone like myself, is great, because while I enjoy beauty, I don’t have all the time any more to look around stores or online which shade complements which.

Yay for my first beauty post in a few months! Please let me know whether by commenting on my blog or on my social media if you enjoy going through my beauty posts, too! And if there’s any thing you want to see next? Or if you have a question I can answer create a post on 🙂
